I do some coaching from time to time for people who are willing to learn. I know not all of us are coach-able. I know I was not in the beginning.
Here is one lesson that I learned and I hope you can learn something from or as much as I have learned from it.
So, lets get started…
Your goals should contain the following 6 guidelines.
I call it the S.M.A.R.T.Y Method. It is still a work in progress and always being tuned up.
#1 – S – Specific: Your goals should be as specific as possible.
I have read blogs on AR that people want to close more loans or more transactions. I don’t simply want to close more, I want an exact number. I want to close 8 per month. I have hit 10 before and less than 2, and I am sick of the yo-yo method that I have developed. And, believe it or not 8 is not enough, but I am building my business for the long haul and I need to make sure my systems are in place before I turn the drip into a flow.
#2 – M – Measurable: You need to measure your success or lack thereof to re-access your goal.
I keep track of my numbers and can trace them back to an ad or a referral source. Plus, you need to be able to tell if you are hitting your goal numbers. In the past, I would think I was hitting my numbers, but at the end of the month. I would not be close to it, or I would be just short and that would drive me insane and my wife would hit me in the head with the rolling pin.
#3 – A – Accountable - You need to be accountable to someone.
If you tell no one, if keep them a secret you dead in the water. Someone has to know what you are striving to do or you can keep changing your goals to make up for your lack or discipline or desire.
There are the first 3 steps in Goal writing. I look forward to reading your comments and the sharing of your goals. I am looking forward to a great 08.
